Endodontics (root canal treatment)
At the start of the treatment we use local anaesthetic to freeze the tooth so pain cannot be felt . A small hole needs to be made in the tooth, through which the space can be cleaned and filled. This is initially done using instruments and an electronic handpiece. that and also with fine files which are used to reshape the inside of your tooth. A barrier or rubber dam is placed around the tooth to isolate it from the rest of the mouth so you can relax your mouth . This prevents instruments bacteria and materials falling in to your mouth. Once the canals are clean a filling/dressing is normally placed. The treatment will be done over a couple of appointments depending on the personalised treatment plan. The success of this treatment isn’t usually 100% guaranteed although the endodontist will discuss this at the initial consultation.
